Weird how it seems like it was last minute. (An alternate scene of the very start before Rhys is knocked out appears to be Rhys buying land from the Stranger from Eden-4. Worth noting, I could find one animation left over from when this happens that involves Rhys putting his hands up specifically due to the Stranger, but it seems everything else was deleted. Then he would pull the gun on Rhys and they meet up with Fiona. (seems to be implied the Stranger originally was going after a Vault and Rhys wanted in and was tagging along) (In general Rhys refers to Fiona as his partner to the Stranger a lot- so at one point the matching outfits like many thought before were probably more important)įrom there its unsure if this is part of the same original scene or an alternate version, but if it is the same version the Stranger would trick Rhys and not take him to where Rhys thought he was going but make some sort of excuse about stopping for a dying nephew or Grandma. Rhys isnt kidnapped by the stranger, instead Rhys is hitchhiking and is picked up by the stranger. Starts with the stranger who then comes across Rhys. Marcus’ intro is different, is more focused on how “someone else” will tell the story. I'll even go back and see if theres more to some stuff if people are interested but anyway. While Fiona’s location after interacting with the chest in the Vault of the Traveler remains unknown, choosing to set her on a Vault Hunter’s path beforehand is a decision that will likely be made canon.Note: This is messy. However, the story is not subtle about Fiona being skilled at Vault Hunting and having fun on the adventure, so it makes sense to carry over the choice players can make about her future. Lastly, Fiona as a Vault Hunter is something that players can try to shy away from if they want her to continue conning people on Pandora. As such, Fiona’s choice to tell Springs Athena loves her will likely carry over. With Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel teasing the romance and the original Tales from the Borderlands making it a reality, the ending where the two get married is likely the canon scenario. Throughout the game, it seems clear that Telltale wants players to do this, as they get a few opportunities to push the pair closer together.
Tales from the Borderlands fans also have a chance to bring another couple together in the form of Springs and Athena. If Sasha reappears, this romance will likely be mentioned. At the very least, Rhys is harboring feelings for Sasha in Borderlands 3, meaning the player’s choice to avoid the relationship completely will surely be ignored. Based on a photo placed on his desk in Borderlands 3, Rhys clearly has feelings for Sasha, meaning that Gearbox has likely already canonized the ending where the Sasha romance occurs. Speaking of Rhys, players have a chance to make the current Atlas CEO romance Sasha in the original game. Because of this, the choice to crush Rhys’ eye and destroy the AI completely will likely carry over.
As such, it will likely continue on this path, meaning that there is no reason for the Handsome Jack AI to return. While his antics are a major highlight of the original, and Rhys defeating the reincarnated villain is memorable, Gearbox avoided making Jack the villain again in Borderlands 3.
For starters, it seems unlikely that the next Tales from the Borderlands game will bring back the Handsome Jack AI.
